EMBRAER Employees in São José dos Campos Strike for Higher Wages

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In an assembly, the employees have rejected the salary increase equal to last year’s inflation of 3.28 percent, which had been proposed in negotiations by the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP).

Workers demand a real adjustment of 6.37 percent. In addition, they want the collective bargaining agreement to preserve the tenure of injured employees and for outsourcing to remain restricted at the plant.

Strike participation

EMBRAER has reported, by note, that most employees have not joined the strike. According to the company, “the productive and administrative areas are operating with approximately 80 percent of their staff”.

The statement further says that the State Police were called to remove the blockade that had been placed by workers to prevent employees and vehicles from accessing the plant.

Still according to the company, the remaining two EMBRAER plants in São José dos Campos, as well as the plants in Botucatu, Campinas, Gavião Peixoto, Sorocaba, and Taubaté, are operating as normal.

The company said it respects the workers’ right to protest, but condemned the blockades made in the company.

“The company vehemently disapproves and laments events such as today’s that aim to curtail the employees’ constitutional right to come and go by raising obstacles for access to the workplace,” says the note.
