Decline in non-Covid vaccination coverage in the Americas worries PAHO

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In a press conference Wednesday (28), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Director Carissa Etienne pointed to the decline in vaccination coverage rates for vaccines other than coronavirus.

Brazil was cited as a negative example, where measles vaccination coverage has declined by more than 10 percent.

She pointed out that in several countries, primary care has been affected by the pandemic. There is a need to invest in health professionals and ensure they can maintain care for the population.

“Investing now is a smart decision. Prevention is much cheaper than treatment, and no one should have to choose between health and taking care of their family,” he said.
