RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The state of Ceará passed Rio de Janeiro and became the second state with the second-most confirmed cases of the disease, behind only São Paulo.
Overall, Ceará recorded a total of 21,077 cases of the novel coronavirus by Thursday, May 14th, while Rio de Janeiro counted 19,467.
However, the number of deaths by Covid-19 is still higher in Rio de Janeiro. There are 2,247 deaths recorded in Rio against 1,413 in Ceará. The data point to a greater capacity of testing in Ceará, which has conducted 55,035 tests for the novel coronavirus.
The state began testing for the disease on March 15th and adopted the policy of testing as many people as possible during the pandemic.
