Cab fare increase as of today in the city of São Paulo
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Cab fares in São Paulo will be increased starting this Saturday (2). The new prices were approved by the Executive Secretariat of Transport and Urban Mobility (Senatram) and the Department of Public Transportation (DTP) of City Hall.
For ordinary cabs, radio cabs, black cabs, and special cabs, the fare (initial value of the race) increases from R$4.50 to R$5.50 (US$.95 to US$1.15), the kilometer fare (value per kilometer traveled) increases from R$2.75 to R$4.00, and the hourly fare (when the car stops or travels at less than 15 kilometers per hour) increases from R$33.00 to R$49.00.
In the luxury cab, the fare increases from R$6.75 to R$8.25, the kilometer rate from R$4.15 to R$6.00, and the hourly rate from R$49.50 to R$73.50.

According to City Hall, the values were adjusted after seven years without changes, and are therefore lower than the cumulative inflation during that period.
“During this period, cumulative inflation, as measured by the IPCA [National Wide Consumer Price Index], was 53.09%. Therefore, the new fixed values are below the cumulative inflation during this period,” the city government said in a statement.
Until all taxi meters are adjusted to the new rates, cab drivers will have to provide the service with two conversion tables in the vehicle. Currently, there are 36,738 registered cabs in the city of São Paulo.
