RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazilian consumers’ inflation expectations for the next 12 months were stable from August to September at 5.1 percent. This is the lowest level since August 2007 (five percent), according to data divulged yesterday, September 23rd, by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV).
The research is collected based on interviews with consumers who answer the following question: In your opinion, how much will Brazilian inflation be in the next 12 months?
According to FGV researcher Renata de Mello Franco, low official inflation and the absence of “significant shocks” in September contributed to the stability of consumer inflation expectations.
Official inflation, measured by the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), has accumulated a rate of 3.43 percent in 12 months, according to August data.
