Brazil’s vehicle production soars 347.6% in May – ANFAVEA

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Vehicle production in Brazil surged 347.6% in May, compared to the same period in 2020. Automakers operating in Brazil produced 192,800 vehicles in May, compared to 3,900 units assembled in the same period in 2020, when companies paralyzed operations as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the accumulated 2021, production reached 981,500 units, an increase of 55.6%. The data was released on Tuesday by the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA).

In May, vehicle sales totaled 188,700, up 203.4% compared to the same month in 2020, according to ANFAVEA. In the year to date, 891.700 new vehicles have been licensed, an increase of 31.9%.

Exports soared 855.4% in May compared to the same month in 2020, reaching 37,000 vehicles. The revenue from exports in May totaled US$693.35 million, an increase of 298.9%, compared to the same month in 2020.

In the year-to-date, according to ANFAVEA, export shipments totaled 166,600 vehicles, up 66.5% compared to the same period in 2020. Foreign sales revenues reached US$3.1 billion by May, up 78.5% compared to the same month in 2020.
