Brazil’s soy export rate sets new record in May

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In May, the world’s largest producer and exporter of the oilseed has now shipped 12.64 million tons of soy.

The average daily soybean exports from Brazil reached 842,900 thousand tons by the 3rd week of May, up 19.5% year-on-year, which may set a new monthly sales record, around 17.7 million tons, should the rate be maintained until the end of the month, government data showed on Monday.

In May, the world’s largest producer and exporter of the oilseed has shipped 12.64 million tons of soy. According to Foreign Trade Secretariat (SECEX) data, the previous record was registered in April, when Brazil exported 17.38 million tons.

Private sector figures also point to the likelihood of a new monthly record in May, according to the National Association of Cereal Exporters (ANEC), last week.

In May 2020, soybean exports sales stood at 14.11 million tons.

The rate of shipments remains heated this month as the harvest of a record 2020/21 crop of the oilseed nears its end, but has retreated slightly from last week, when it stood at 880,000 tons per day.

Also according to SECEX, the average foreign sales of oil reached 301,700 tons a day through the 3rd week of the month, a drop from 412,800 a day recorded in May last year.

In the weekly comparison there was also a slight retraction, given that up to the 2nd week of the month 364,300 tons were shipped daily.
