Brazil exported the largest amount of pork in history in August

Brazilian pork exports (fresh and processed) reached 116,300 tons in August, the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) announced Tuesday.

It was the largest volume shipped in a single month in history, and there was a 27.7% growth compared to August 2021. In turn, sales increased 28.7% to US$269 million in the same period.

Brazil exported 722.8 thousand tons from January to August, bringing in US$ 1.607 billion. This represents a decrease of 4.5% and 11%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2021.

China was the leading destination for Brazilian pork abroad in August, buying 16% more than last year’s eighth month, or 49,200 tons.

Other highlights were the Philippines with 11.5 thousand tons (+381%), Vietnam with 6.3 thousand tons (+48%), Chile with 6 thousand tons (+6%), and Thailand with 4.8 thousand tons (+8,376%).

“The data reinforces ABPA’s assessment that the second half of the year will be much better than the first six months of this year,” said the association’s president, Ricardo Santin, in a statement.
