Brazil created 195,200 formal jobs in March, almost twice as many as a year ago

Brazil created 195,200 formal jobs in March 2023. There was an increase of 97.6% compared to the same period in 2022, when 98,9800 positions were created. It is the third consecutive month with a positive balance.

In all, 526.2 thousand occupied jobs have been opened since January. The data were released on Thursday (27) by the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

It is part of the Caged (Cadastro Geral de Empregados e Desempregados).

Brazil now has 42.97 million people working formally in the public and private sectors. This represents an increase of 0.46% in relation to the 42.76 million in the previous month.

AVERAGE SALARY

According to the ministry, the average wage for admission was R$ 1,960.72 (US$396) in March, 1.51% lower than in February. There was an actual drop of R$ 30.06.

SECTORS

The services sector performed best and helped drive the March result, farming the worst.

Here are the sectoral balances:

  • service: 122,323 jobs;
  • construction: 33,641 jobs
  • industry: 20,984 jobs;
  • transformation industry: 17,876 jobs;
  • commerce: 18,555 jobs;
  • agriculture: 332 fewer jobs.

STATES AND REGIONS

In all, 22 states registered positive balances in the month. The exceptions: Mato Grosso, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte and Amapá.

The most significant balances were in:

São Paulo: 50,768;
Minas Gerais: 38,730;
Rio de Janeiro: 19,427.

The States with the lowest results were:

Rio Grande do Norte: minus 78 jobs;
Paraíba: minus 815 jobs;
Pernambuco: minus 5,266 jobs.

The 5 Brazilian regions also showed a positive balance:

Southeast: 113,374;
Northeast: 14,115;
South: 37,441;
Midwest: 22,435;
North: 10,077.
