Bolsonaro Announces Plan to Build Factory to “Extract Water from Air”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “(An) Israeli factory that extracts water from the air will be built in Brazil.” The announcement was made by President Jair Bolsonaro on Twitter. According to him, the initiative is “one more way to tackle the lack of water in the Northeast, in addition to desalination, artesion wells and the São Francisco River”.

In addition to water, the President believes that “the venture will also create jobs and development in the region”.

Partnerships with Israel to improve water supply in the Northeast region have been championed by Jair Bolsonaro since the transition to his administration. A year ago, the Minister of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications, Marcos Pontes, traveled to Israel with a team of experts to learn about water recycling and desalination practices.

In November last year, experts and officials from the National Water Agency were in Israel to discuss a memorandum of understanding on water resources management, wastewater, sewage management, and water reuse and desalination.
