RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This year’s Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards had a good surprise for Brazilians. The platform’s travelers placed Hotel Colline De France, in Gramado, Rio Grande do Sul, at the top of the overall list of the world’s best hotels.
Tripadvisor’s ranking is based on guests’ ratings of the establishments, classifying them in terms of location, cleanliness, service and cost-effectiveness. The hotel in the Serra Gaucha region won the title with the highest score (5) out of 1,565 traveler reviews, classifying it as “excellent” – only five people voted for “very good”, the category just below, and none of them rated it poorly.
Inside the hotel
The hotel is inspired by France and intends to be “a little piece of Europe in Brazil.” The homage translates into elaborate architecture and interior design, with gold details, as well as rococo prints and furniture.
The hotel features 34 suites, which differ in size and decoration. All bathrooms have a marble finish, retractable mirror, and amenities from L’occitane au Bresil. Some boast chromotherapy whirlpools with heated floors.
In the bedrooms, there is hand-carved furniture in imperial style, such as velvet sofas inspired by Louis XV. Lying on the bed with 300-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets, guests gaze up at the ceiling to find chandeliers that are anything but basic.
Croissant and other French delicacies are guaranteed at breakfast. Other attractions, charged separately, include the wellness center with therapeutic treatments and massages and the Bistrot restaurant, with French dishes such as boeuf bourguignon.
More national highlights
The Hotel Colline De France was not the only Brazilian lodging to feature in the preferences of travelers in the accommodation platform. In fifth place in the ranking of best bed & breakfasts is the Pousada Gaia Viva, in Igaratá, in the interior of São Paulo. The Pousada Quarto Crescente, in Trancoso (Bahia), is ranked 13th.
In 20th and 23rd place are Casa Ilha do Mel, a charming inn in Paraná Island, and Pousada Recanto do Arraial, located in the center of Arraial d’Ajuda, a district of Porto Seguro (Bahia).
The Valle D’incanto Midscale Hotel, also in Gramado, ranks 20th in the romantic hotels category. Among the all-inclusive accommodations, the hotel VilaVip Fazenda, in Serra Negra (São Paulo), stands out.
Those looking for the perfect photo may head to the Serrambi Resort. Located in Ipojuca, Pernambuco, it ranked 19th on the list. Among the most attractive new hotels in the world is the Anttunina Pousada Spa, in Maragogi, Alagoas, ranked 3rd.
