DJ Cosmo Baker at Comuna in Rio: Daily

By Nathan M. Walters, Senior Contributing Reporter

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Comuna, Botafogo’s alternative party venue, will host tonight’s much-talked-about Só Pedrada (Just Stoned) Party.  Headlining the event, American DJ Cosmo Baker in his first visit to the marvelous city.

The party is a celebration commemorating the six years of Daniel Tamenpi’s blog www.sopedradamusical.com, which was forcibly removed in 2009 pursuant to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Cosmo Baker, the New York-based DJ, is the creator of some of the most well-known parties in the world, The Rub and The Do-Over among them.

The DJ says, “I’m excited to be in Rio, it’s universally known as a party town, from the Funk dances in the Favelas to Carnival. And I know that all my friends in Brazil live and breathe all things music, so I fully expect that the shows will just be amazing!”

Baker will be playing a wide-spectrum of music at the party, mining the history of music for party gems and, as he says, “exploding rockets!”  DJ Tamenpi and DJ Nedu Lopes will also man the decks during the evening.

Comuna is quickly becoming known as one of the best alternative venues in Rio, a different slant on partying in Botafogo. Those with an inkling for some Saturday night fun should consider Baker’s suggestion,  “So let’s all just go crazy and party like it’s the end of the world!”  Not a bad idea for a Saturday night.
