The UK Defense Ministry, in a recent statement, highlighted that the Wagner Group, a paramilitary organization, is undergoing significant financial constraints.
The Ministry shared that the group has been recalibrating its structure, which includes downsizing its workforce, as a measure to cut back on payroll costs.
This restructuring comes after Russia took actions that impacted the commercial interests of the group’s leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Notably, Prigozhin reportedly spearheaded an unsuccessful uprising against senior officials of the Russian military in June.
The UK’s Defense Ministry further speculated that if the Russian government ceases its financial backing of Wagner, the next likely financiers could be the Belarusian authorities, a move that might strain Belarus’s financial reserves.
