The new vintage of the Chilean icon Don Melchor with AD 95 pts

In 1883, Don Melchor Concha y Toro brought vine seedlings from France to Chile.

Don Melchor planted in Pirque, at the foot of the Andes Mountains, these seedlings originating from Bordeaux.

Thus began the history of one of the world’s greatest wineries, Concha y Toro.

In the 1987 vintage, the Chilean winery released one of South America’s renowned icons, Don Melchor.

In 2019 this label, in honor of the company’s founder, took another step and, in the style of the French chateaux, became its domain: Viña Don Melchor, captained by the brilliant Enrique Tirado.

Enrique began working with the Don Melchor team in 1995, took over its enology in 1997, and has been dedicated to this wine ever since.

He was tasked to take care of the already iconic wine, was unsatisfied with keeping it great, and worked hard to make it even greater.

Don Melchor continues with its Cabernet Sauvignon soul that put Chile on the world map and has been receiving in its cut varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.

Born from exceptional lots in the Alto Maipo, Don Melchor 2020 is a true marathon runner, and the 2020 vintage reconciled tradition with a look toward the future.

An unctuous and ample version of Don Melchor, seductive, refined, and precise. It is enjoyable now but should improve in the next 20 years.
