Brazil: Justice Moraes’ plans for Bolsonaro and Zambelli

Justice Alexandre de Moraes, president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), should soon move forward with the process that could make former president Jair Bolsonaro ineligible.

According to Roseann Kennedy, columnist for the newspaper Estado de S. Paulo, the minister was only waiting for the nominations for the two vacancies of the TSE to pursue the action against Bolsonaro.

According to the newspaper, the Court has taken for granted the removal from office of congresswoman Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), the target of the fake news investigation.

APPOINTMENTS IN RECORD TIME

The appointments of Floriano de Azevedo Marques and André Ramos Tavares to the TSE happened in record time. Both names are connected to Moraes.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva made the choices on the same day the Federal Supreme Court (STF) forwarded the nominations.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes thanked the president for his “celerity.”

Estadão also reported that the expectation is that the Justice will reciprocate with the same “speed”.
