New outbreak of avian flu confirmed in Uruguay

The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) of Uruguay confirmed today the fourteenth avian flu outbreak by reporting an outbreak in backyard poultry in a rural establishment in Solís de Mataojo, Lavalleja department (east).

The outbreak was found in some 30 hens and some ducks, which have already been culled, MGAP's national farm director, Nicolás Chiesa, told the online edition of El País newspaper.

MGAP technicians visited the area and found no more affected birds, Chiesa said.
