By Artur Piva

The Bank of Brazil closed R$ 2.9 billion (US$600 million) in business deals in the 28th edition of Agrishow, the largest agribusiness fair in Latin America.

The event occurred between May 1st and 5th in Ribeirão Preto, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, 315 kilometers from the state capital.

With the result, the Bank of Brazil achieved a new record at Agrishow, according to the Globo Rural magazine.

The amount represents almost double the initial expectation of the institution: R$1.5 billion.

Through a note, Tarciana Medeiros, president of the bank, said that the commercial presence “strengthens the historic partnership with the sector”.

The week before the exhibition started, the federal government threatened to withdraw the sponsorship of the financial institution to the fair.

BANK OF BRAZIL, AGRISHOW, AND THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE

The threat occurred after Carlos Fávaro, the agriculture minister chosen by Lula, said he was not invited to the event’s opening.

According to the politician, the organizers consulted him about the possibility of the presidential entourage changing the visit date after former president Jair Bolsonaro confirmed his presence on the first day of the exhibition.

However, the fair organizers denied the invitation canceling in an official statement published on Wednesday, April 26.

The text reiterated the invitation for the minister to participate in the exhibition’s opening.

Amid the events, the opening ceremony was canceled.

The government’s Agriculture Minister did not attend the exhibition, unlike Bolsonaro, who was received by supporters on the first day of the event.

And the Bank of Brazil kept its stand open during all days of the Agrishow.
