São Paulo Governor Tarcísio is studying the privatization of all metropolitan trains lines

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas, announced the hiring of studies to verify the feasibility of granting all lines of the São Paulo Metropolitan Trains Company (CPTM) to the private sector.

The announcement was made this Monday, 10, to mark the first 100 days of the government.

“The study for the concession of the remaining CPTM lines is an important step,” said the governor. “Our commitment is to have quality public transportation,” he added.

The lines that will be part of the study are the 10-Turquesa, 11-Coral, 12-Safira, 13-Jade, and the future CPTM Line 14-Ônix.

Currently, the 8-Diamante and 9-Esmeralda Lines are operated by the private sector, and the 7-Rubi Line already has a public notice in progress for the concession.

EVALUATION OF TARCÍSIO’S MANAGEMENT, ACCORDING TO KASSAB

Governor Tarcísio de Freitas has shown “a lot of capacity for action”.

This is the evaluation of the Secretary of Government and Institutional Relations of the State of São Paulo Gilberto Kassab.

“The very important transformations that he has been presenting in the planning has contributed to conquering the voters’ trust, ” observed Kassab in an interview with Jornal da Manhã from Jovem Pan radio.

He cited the emergency actions, especially in the areas of health and education, promoted by the governor.

According to the secretary, the management’s great “achievement” has been the resumption of bidding to complete the northern stretch of the ring road.

“Since 2010, the candidates for governor have been committed to completing the ring road. It was like that in 2010, 2014, and 2018, and none of them completed it,” Kassab said.

“And, fortunately, this time, it will be fulfilled; it will be a great management goal,” he said.

According to the secretary, completing the work will bring more investments to the State.

“It will free São Paulo from thousands of trucks that still pass through the city, it will make traffic management more rational, it will bring savings for exporters and importers, and the state’s supply will be much more rational,” observed Kassab.

PRIVATIZATION OF SABESP

The privatization proposal for the Basic Sanitation Company of the State of São Paulo (Sabesp) should “anticipate” the universalization of water and sewage services in the State.

“The governor has been responsible, making it clear that he believes and wants the privatization, but he wants to see the studies so that it is very evident that it will be positive”, he affirmed.

According to Kassab, the sale of the company will enable all people from São Paulo to have sewage treated, water available, and lower tariffs.

“All this the study needs to show. If it shows, and Tarcisio understands that it will, and so do I, I understand that it will lead to privatization.

PORT OF SANTOS

One of the assets that the governor “fights” to privatize is the Port of Santos.

Tarcísio understands that it will be fundamental for the development of the Baixada Santista.

However, privatization depends on the federal government.

“We need resources from the privatization to re-urbanize the Port of Santos, all around it, to re-urbanize the outskirts of Guarujá,” said Kassab.

“Unfortunately, as everyone knows, we are heading towards disorganization, towards an irrecoverable urban chaos in those two regions, where organized crime takes over, where access even to public services is difficult,” he lamented.

“Only with many resources can we recover this area,” concluded the secretary.
