Brazilians are increasingly buying electric cars

Throughout March, sales of electric cars broke a new record in Brazil.

There were 6,000 registrations.

The result represents a 55% growth over the same month of the previous year.

The data are from the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE).

The institution’s records show that almost 15,000 cars in this segment were sold in the first quarter – another historical mark.

Three years earlier, in 2021, the first quarter sales of electric cars closed at 4,500 units.

In other words, the current sales average is three times higher.

Around half of the electric cars sold in March have batteries charged by an external plug-in source.

“The numbers confirm the heating of the light electrified market in Brazil in this early 2023,” says ABVE.

“Since the beginning of the historical series, the total fleet of light electrified vehicles in circulation in Brazil reached 141,291 units in March this year.”

The association believes that the increase in recharging points contributes to the market’s expansion.

Entrepreneurs estimate that recharging points should reach 10,000 units by 2025.

In December 2022, there were about 3,000 such places.

Thus, if the forecast is confirmed, there will be a roughly threefold increase in the infrastructure for electric cars in two years.
