Lula assures that Brazil will grow “more than the pessimists predict”

The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, assured that his country would grow above the forecasts of the financial market, which he considers pessimistic.

He also criticized the economic agents selling Brazil’s image to the world as a “weak horse” because “nobody will bet anything.”

“I believe we will grow more than the pessimists foresee.”

“More things will happen in Brazil than what people expect to happen, and it will depend very, very much on the disposition of the Government”, he stated at the beginning of a meeting with other ministers on initiatives for the productive sector.

The Central Bank’s weekly report maintained its GDP growth forecast for 2023 at 0.9%.

Lula did not provide any figures but implied that he expects Brazil to grow much more than that, assuring that he does not believe in the forecasts saying Brazil will grow “zero or little”.

The president made these statements in a meeting with the Minister of Economy, Fernando Haddad, the Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, and the Minister of Planning, Simone Tebet.

This is the first official engagement on his agenda after the days he was recovering from pneumonia, which forced him to cancel an official trip to China.
