Brazilian country singer Matheus, of the duo with Zé Henrique, dies after hit-and-run on São Paulo highway

The singer Matheus, of the duo with Zé Henrique, died in the early morning of last Wednesday (29) at 43.

The São Paulo Secretary of Public Safety (SSP) informed that the young musician was the victim of a hit-and-run accident on highway Dom Pedro I in the Contendas neighborhood of the city of Valinhos.

According to witnesses, he was returning from Rio de Janeiro with his family and was hit when he stopped the vehicle to change seats with his 61-year-old father-in-law.

Matheus died on the spot.

His father-in-law was treated in serious condition but did not survive.

According to the SSP, the person responsible for the accident, a 36-year-old man, was arrested in flagrante delicto for manslaughter and culpable bodily injury.

Civil police officers found that the car driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and invaded the oncoming lane.

In addition, the Institute of Criminalistics (IC) examinations pointed out the presence of alcohol in the driver’s body.

Through Instagram, the official page of the couple lamented the occurrence and confirmed that Matheus left his wife and children.

“It is with the deepest regret and immense sadness that we communicate the death of Matheus.”

“In this difficult and painful moment, we express our deepest grief.”

“Matheus leaves behind his wife and children. May he rest in peace!”
