Foreign Ministers of Venezuela and Brazil point to a “new stage” in bilateral relations

On Thursday night, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, held a meeting with his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, with whom he discussed the agenda of joint cooperation with a view to the development of a new stage in the political relations of both nations.

“I had a pleasant meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, to discuss the bilateral agenda and to continue advancing in this new stage of diplomatic relations,” said Gil.

The meeting took place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, within the framework of the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held tomorrow in that city with the participation of 22 countries.

Venezuela and Brazil are progressively rebuilding their bilateral relations, which were severely affected by the government of Jair Bolsonaro, who disowned the Venezuelan authorities and refused any cooperation with Caracas from 2019 onwards.

Recently, both foreign ministers communicated by telephone to discuss the progressive normalization of their relations and fine-tune cooperation mechanisms in health matters in border populations.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry also informed that both foreign ministers “discussed the next steps to resume the binational agenda, such as holding a meeting of deputy foreign ministers in the coming weeks to define priority issues on the agenda”.
