Strike in the subway of SP affects the Blue, Green, Red, and Silver lines

The São Paulo Subway workers have started a strike affecting the Blue, Green, Red, and Silver lines.

The São Paulo Subway said, at 5:53 am, that the service in the sections was completely paralyzed.

The Yellow and Purple lines are operating normally.

According to the São Paulo subway, transfers to the Green and Red lines will remain closed in all stations connected to CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos).

The “rodízio de carros” (car rotation) in São Paulo has been suspended.

CPTM informed the five train lines work normally this Thursday (Mar. 23).

“The company will extend the peak hours, if necessary,” the company said in a statement.

The subway workers’ strike was decided in an assembly held on the night of Wednesday (Mar. 22).

“The Subway Workers Union has been trying to negotiate with the government since the beginning of the year, including with the mediation of the TRT [Regional Labor Court]. Besides the problems of lack of employees and investments, the government stopped paying the Participation in the Results of the category in the last three years,” said the union.

According to the institution, the category is willing to negotiate an agreement.

As an alternative to the strike, the workers proposed to work normally but with the turnstiles open – that is, without charging the fare.

In a statement published on its social networks, the São Paulo Metro regretted the decision and said the action punished the population by “paralyzing the essential transport service.”

JUSTICE ACCEPTED TO RELEASE TURNSTILES

At the request of the Metro, the TRT (Regional Labor Court) rejected an injunction to set a minimum quantity of operation of the trains in case of a strike.

In the decision, the release of turnstiles was accepted, a method proposed by the workers union to rule out the possibility of damage to the population.

“According to the judge rapporteur of the decision, Eliane Aparecida da Silva Pedroso, this way, there is no reduction in the supply of transport services to the community, unlike what was proposed by the employer’s union. In the opinion of the magistrate, the strike is a nuisance and aims to mobilize society around the demands and needs of a community, “said the TRT in a statement.
