Colombia: money laundering investigation against Petro’s son officialized

On Tuesday, Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office said it is criminally investigating Nicolás Petro, son of President Gustavo Petro, in the context of accusations against him for links with drug traffickers and “possible money laundering”, reports Infobae.

The Colombian head of state requested the investigation at the beginning of this month in the face of criticism about possible drug trafficking financing schemes in his political environment.

Amid the accusations, his brother, Juan Fernando Petro, was also affected.

“The units of the Attorney General’s Office are investigating the criminal case and the case of assets or possible money laundering. Those are the advances we have,” said prosecutor Francisco Barbosa about Nicolás Petro’s case.

The accusations were initially uncovered by the ex-partner of Gustavo Petro’s son, Day Vásquez, who said in an interview that Nicolás Petro had once received about 120,000 euros from the renowned drug trafficker Samuel Santander Lopesierra.
