According to the National Petroleum Agency, the volume surpasses the previous record of barrels, registered in October last year.

Compared to a year earlier, gas production advanced by 11.4% to 146.54 million cubic meters daily.

Meanwhile, crude oil production shrunk by 0.39% in February. But it showed year-on-year growth of 11.8%.

THE OIL INDUSTRY IS OPPOSED TO NEW TAXES

The Brazilian Oil and Gas Institute (IBP), representing the sector, is trying to stop the Crude Oil Export Tax collection. IBP filed a Direct Unconstitutionality Action with the Federal Supreme Court.

At the beginning of the month, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, announced the creation of a tax of 9.2% on crude oil exports between March and June.

The goal is to compensate for the drop in tax collection with the fuel exemption.

According to IBP, the institute calculates that the charge can lead to a direct loss of US$1.2 billion for companies in the sector, in addition to generating adverse effects on the activities of this industry in the states.

This could harm, above all, the states of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, and São Paulo, where the companies’ headquarters and main activities are located.
