Brazil: for the first time, Bolsonaro admits possibility of becoming ineligible

While participating in an event with Brazilians in Orlando, in the United States, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) admitted, for the first time, the possibility of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) making him ineligible.

Justice Alexandre de Moraes heads the TSE.

When talking to supporters last Tuesday (14), Bolsonaro cited developments in the TSE inquiry investigating a meeting between the former president and 40 ambassadors in July 2022.

In the meeting, the former president presented weaknesses of the electronic ballot boxes and denounced the actions of the TSE to cover up flaws in the electoral system.

Bolsonaro was accused of “attacks on electronic ballot boxes” at the time.

When asked by supporters about his return to Brazil, the former president said he might return at the end of this month but stressed that he would evaluate the scenario before embarking.

“I always set a date to return. The date set now is March 29. Seven days before we go, we will study the situation in Brazil and the contacts here,” he said.

About the possibility of arrest, Bolsonaro said that it would only happen in case of arbitrariness.
