Moraes orders the release of 52 protesters indicted for Jan. 8 acts in Brasília 

The Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) granted on Thursday (2) provisional freedom to another 52 accused of involvement in the January 8 acts in Brasilia, the headquarters of the three branches of government – National Congress, the Planalto Palace, and the Supreme Court – were invaded and degraded.

On Tuesday, the magistrate had already ordered the release of 173 prisoners.

The understanding is the same and considers that, since the investigations did not indicate those involved as financiers or main executors, they can respond in freedom through precautionary measures.

They are:

  • home detention at night and on weekends using an electronic anklet;
  • weekly appearance, every Monday, before the Execution Court of the district of origin;
  • prohibition to leave the country and cancellation of passport;
  • suspension to carry a firearm;
  • and prohibition of using social networks and contact with the others involved.

The accused will have to appear within 24 hours in the courts where they live.

According to data from the STF, 751 people are currently in prison, and 655 have been released to respond in freedom with precautionary measures.
