Brazilian Central Bank dicusses international Pix with 4 LatAm countries

The Central Bank (BC) president, Roberto Campos Neto, said the international Pix project is being discussed with Uruguay, Colombia, Chile, and Ecuador.

The declarations of the Central Bank were given this Monday (27) in an event promoted by the Brazilian Institute of Teaching, Development, and Research in Brasília.

According to Campos Neto, the idea would be to assemble a block of Latin American countries that can make instant transactions following Pix’s model.

“We are thinking about how to make the Pix international,” he said.

“Some Latin American countries are already discussing how they will adopt Pix. We think we will have a block. You travel between countries and make the automatic payment. That way, you solve the problem of cross-border payment.”

The CB president also said that with the international Pix, there would no longer be a need to continue articulating the single currency.

“I think this is a way to unify the block without the need to talk in terms of currency,” suggested Campos Neto.

“If we have an instant payment, already unified, we already do the work of cross-border payment.”

Earlier this year, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva traveled to Argentina to discuss possible monetary unification with Brazil.
