Two men killed seven people after losing a pool game in Brazil

Two men killed seven people after losing a pool game in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, and authorities confirmed the death of one of them during search operations, according to the Civil Police on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night in a bar in the municipality of Sinop, located in the north of Mato Grosso (west), 480 kilometers from the regional capital Cuiabá and close to the Amazon state of Pará.

According to witnesses’ accounts to the authorities, the two men lost a pool game in which money was being bet.

After being taunted by the winners, they left the place and returned, shooting indiscriminately at everyone.

Among the victims was a twelve-year-old minor.

On Wednesday afternoon, during a shooting confrontation with the police in a rural area near the Sinop airport, Ezequiel de Souza Ribeiro, 27 years old, was killed.

According to an official report from the Mato Grosso Public Security Secretariat, the accused was wounded and taken to a hospital in Sinop, where he died.

The other perpetrator of the massacre, Edgar Ricardo de Oliveira, who has an arrest warrant issued by the justice system, remains a fugitive.

The Civil Police indicated to EFE on Wednesday that the truck of the massacre’s perpetrators and one of the weapons used were found abandoned.
