Brazil: conservative councilman launches package of laws in defense of life

Councilman Uner Augusto (PRTB), newly sworn into the Belo Horizonte City Council, filed this Monday five bills to promote pro-life culture and combat the abortionist agenda in the capital of Minas Gerais.

The pro-life package, as it is being called, starts with two bills that institute the Day and Week of the Unborn in Belo Horizonte.

“The institution of the Day and Week of the Born has great cultural importance,” says the councilman.

“On these dates, all schools in the municipality should carry out activities to value life from conception. Thus, children will learn that the right to life begins inside the mother’s belly.”

The third project in the pro-life package is the Adoption and Protected Childhood Law.

It provides for the placement of information signs in places where abortion is performed, informing about the possibility of legal delivery of children soon after birth.

Through legal delivery, which is already provided for by federal law, children who result from an unwanted pregnancy can be given up for adoption to families who dream of having a baby.

The Abortion Procedures Clarification Act, if passed, mandates the posting of posters with images about abortion in places where the municipality performs the procedure.

“This way, the pregnant woman will know how her baby will be killed before having the procedure,” says the councilman.

The fifth law that Uner Augusto intends to approve in the City Council is the one that provides for improved care for victims of sexual abuse and violence in Belo Horizonte.

“Today, in our municipality, SUS classifies pregnant women into two groups: risk pregnancies and non-risk pregnancies. In the case of pregnancy without risk, the woman has the right to only one ultrasound at the beginning of the pregnancy. In high-risk pregnancies, the woman has the right to as many ultrasounds as necessary. Our project equates pregnant women who are victims of rape to those at risk, determining that the doctor is obliged to offer her the right to listen to her child’s heartbeat. Most mothers who listen to their child’s heartbeat give up abortion, which is how we will save many lives.

Uner Augusto was sworn in as a councilman on February 1, replacing Nikolas Ferreira, the federal congressman with the most votes in Brazil in 2022.

In his inauguration speech, Uner used the maxim of historian Paulo Mercadante, always repeated by professor Olavo de Carvalho: “Do not stop, do not precipitate, do not retrocede”.

The councilman intends to transform BH into the most pro-life and conservative capital of the country.
