Fire hits cargo terminal at Galeão Airport in Rio de Janeiro

A fire hit a cargo terminal at the International Airport of Rio de Janeiro on Ilha do Governador, North Zone of the city, in the early afternoon of Wednesday, 18.

Authorities confirmed the information in Rio de Janeiro.

It is not known yet what caused the fire. Rio’s Operations Center warned drivers driving in the region to be careful with the great smoke that spread due to the fire.

The airport’s administration informed that the local fire department is working alongside firefighters to fight the flames and that the affected area has been isolated.

Also, according to the airport, there were no victims and no impact on landings and takeoffs. On social networks, images of the fire have viralized and show a large cloud of smoke coming out of the terminal hit by the fire.
