Lula da Silva withdraws Brazil from international declaration against abortion

This Tuesday (17) Lula da Silva (PT) decided to withdraw Brazil from the international declaration against abortion.

The Geneva Consensus Declaration on Women’s Health and Women’s Empowerment also supports the traditional role of the family based on heterosexual couples.

The day before, the Ministry of Health had revoked a rule that made it difficult for women to have access to legal termination of pregnancy.

The Geneva Declaration, signed by Bolsonaro in October 2020, states that “there is no international right to abortion nor any international obligation on States to finance or facilitate abortion”.

Lula da Silva, during the elections, claimed to be “personally against abortion”, even writing a letter to the electorate. However, recent actions by the PT administration have contributed to the increase in abortion in the country.
