Brazil’s STF Justice Alexandre de Moraes determines the dissolution of Brazilian Spring protester camps in 24 hours

Earlier on Monday (Jan. 9), the minister of the Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes, ordered the closure, within 24 hours, of camps around barracks across the country.

The minister also ordered the removal of the governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), from office.

The term lasts 90 days.

Moraes, the rapporteur of the inquiry that investigates anti-democratic acts, analyzed a series of requests made by AGU (Attorney General of the Union) and Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP).

According to Moraes, the invaders should be arrested for “terrorist acts, including preparatory”; “criminal association,”; “violent abolition of the democratic rule of law,”; coup d’état; “threat,”; “persecution,”; and “incitement to crime.”

According to the decision, the encampments should be dissolved by the Military Police of the states and the Federal District, with support from the National Force and the Federal Police.

Municipal authorities should provide all the necessary support for the removal of the materials existing on the sites.

“The military commander of the HQ should also provide all necessary assistance for the effective fulfillment of the measure,” says the minister in the decision.
