Uber announced this Thursday, the 5th, the provision of a passenger transport service using motorcycles in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
The novelty, which had existed in the country since 2020 and was initially inaugurated in the city of Aracajú in Sergipe (SE), is now available in more than 160 municipalities across the national territory.
By using a motorcycle, the intention is to lower the price of tickets and have a transport service with a lower value than UberX.
However, the city hall of the capital of São Paulo has already announced that it will request the suspension of the service – which would not have been notified to the public authorities in advance.
“At the request of the mayor, the Municipal Road Use Committee (CMUV) will contact the company to request the immediate suspension of the activity, in addition to the necessary clarifications by Uber, since the company did not inform the São Paulo City Hall about the beginning of the operation of this mobility option”, said management Ricardo Nunes (MDB).
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), also opposed the measure and published a message on social networks in support of the São Paulo mayor. “Don’t even try it here,” Paes said in a message directed at Uber.
