The Amazon Fund aims to finance projects for reducing deforestation and monitoring the biome.

The financing mechanism had been deactivated in the last government and has been reactivated now after the Supreme Federal Court (STF) determination.

According to the German president, the investments planned are around 35 million euros.

Created in 2008, the fund receives donations from international institutions and governments to finance actions to prevent and combat deforestation in the Legal Amazon.

In 2019, Germany and Norway suspended transfers to new projects after the Brazilian government suggested changes in the application of resources and abolished the fund’s management collegiate.

VISIT TO MANAUS

Steinmeier went to the state of Amazonas to learn about projects and actions financed with funds from the German government.

Among them is the Atto Tower, in São Sebastião do Uatumã, about 240 kilometers from Manaus.

This tower monitors the region’s climatic conditions and the greenhouse effect issues, coordinated by Brazilian and German researchers.
