Hotels in Rio de Janeiro have an occupancy rate of 92.51% for New Year’s Eve

Yesterday (28), the Rio de Janeiro Municipality of Accommodation Union (Hotéis Rio) released the fourth balance sheet related to the New Year’s Eve.

Three days before New Year’s Eve, the hotel chain in Rio has an occupancy rate of 92.51% for the period between December 30th and January 1st.

The numbers point to an increase in demand since the last balance, released on Friday (23), announced an index of 89.61%. The expectation is that, in the coming days, almost 100% occupancy will be reached.

The most popular neighborhoods so far are Ipanema and Leblon, where hotels account for 96.98% of confirmed reservations. The ranking follows Flamengo and Botafogo (96.50%), Leme and Copacabana (95.84%), Barra da Tijuca and São Conrado (93.19%) and Centro (82.76%).

FOREIGN TOURISTS

In a statement released by Hotéis Rio, the organization’s president, Alfredo Lopes, highlighted the movement of foreign tourists, mainly North Americans and Europeans. “It was a pleasant surprise. We observed that 25% of visitors are foreigners. Last year, it was only 10%. This is very expressive, we are back to pre-pandemic levels,” he said.

This year’s New Year’s Eve marks the resumption of shows on the city’s beaches, suspended in the last two years because of the health crisis involving covid-19. In Copacabana, there will be two stages for singers Iza, Alexandre Pires, Zeca Pagodinho, Martinália and Preta Gil, among other artists.

The covid-19 pandemic significantly affected the occupancy of the hotel chain in Rio de Janeiro on New Year’s Eve 2020, when the average occupancy rate was 57%.

In 2021, although the concerts were still suspended, it was possible to follow the traditional fireworks display on different beaches. At the time, the city once again received a high volume of tourists: four days before New Year’s Eve, 92.1% of reservations were confirmed.

ARRAIAL DO CABO

In the interior of the state, a survey by “Hotéis Rio” – in partnership with the Brazilian Hotel Industry Association (Abih-RJ) – indicates Arraial do Cabo as the most popular destination among the 14 municipalities surveyed. In the city, 98.4% of reservations are confirmed.

The survey also included Itatiaia, Cabo Frio, Armação dos Búzios, Paraty, Miguel Pereira, Angra dos Reis, Teresópolis, Vassouras, Petrópolis, Nova Friburgo, Valença, Macaé and Rio das Ostras. In no destination does the hotel chain record less than 85% occupancy.
