Group of lawyers ask Brazil’s Prosecutor General to investigate Moraes for crimes of responsibility

A group of lawyers asked Brazil’s Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) for the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and Justice of the Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, to be investigated for a crime of responsibility.

According to the request, filed on Monday (Dec. 19), Moraes acted to “favor the Lula-Alckmin ticket” and indicated the name of former congressman Gabriel Chalita to occupy the Ministry of Education.

The request is based on an article published by Veja magazine, which attributes the nomination of Chalita to Moraes and states that the indication would have even pleased Janja, Lula da Silva’s wife.

For the lawyers, Moraes also violated the code of ethics of the judiciary by presenting unethical conduct.

“The facts recounted and proven, by themselves, denote unprecedented gravity in the history of public administration because an agent used the position of president of the TSE to favor a plaque and, later, to regiment one or more names to occupy a political position in the future government,” says an excerpt of the request.

The PGR received the request but has not yet commented on the document. Moraes is also the target of two other lawsuits in the Military Supreme Court (STM).
