During a lecture held at the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea) on Thursday (Dec. 15), Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said that “Latin America is crumbling under the weight of an ideology,” in reference to the populist ultra-leftist policies formed by the São Paulo Forum.
“Socialism based on Marxism is the greatest intellectual blunder society has ever made. It caused 60, 70 million deaths in the great famine in China, 30 million deaths in the great famine in Russia, then another 100 million deaths in the two world wars,” he declared.
“You are living it in real-time. The Bolivarian socialism of the 21st century, it’s right next door.”
Guedes also spoke to Argentina and Venezuela, which are suffering from economic crises, with galloping inflation and growing poverty.
“You see 4, 5 million Venezuelans fleeing to Brazil. Where is the Bolivarian paradise? You are seeing it in Argentina. You are seeing Latin America crumbling under the weight of one ideology,” he declared.
