Minimum wage in Brazil will be increased

From January 1, 2023, the minimum wage in Brazil, which is currently R$1,212, will increase to R$1,302 (US$1 equals R$5.27).

The updated figure is included in a provisional measure published in the Official Journal on Monday (12th).

In a statement, the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic said that the figure takes into account an inflation deviation of 5.81% and an actual increase of about 1.5%.

The value of R$1,302 refers to the national minimum wage. The value applies to all workers, both in the public and private sectors, as well as pensions. As this is an interim measure, the text has yet to be reviewed by the Senators.

The same new value for the minimum wage was already envisaged in the 2023 Annual Budget Act (LOA) draft, which was submitted to Congress in August.
