‘There will be no more privatizations in this country,’ says Lula da Silva

The president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT, progressive-globalist), said that there would be no privatizations of state companies in his next government, which begins on Jan. 1.

Also, in his speech, Lula da Silva confirmed that former senator Aloizio Mercadante would be the president of BNDES.

The statement was made during the closing event of the transition work at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB), in Brasilia, on Tuesday (Dec. 13).

“There will be no more privatizations in this country. They have already privatized almost everything. It will end, and we will show that some public companies will be able to show their profitability,” said Lula da Silva.

He said that whoever wants to invest in the country will be “welcome” because “Brazil has room for everyone.”

“Whoever wants to come here, come; there is work, there are things for you to come and do, there is a new project for investment, but don’t come here to buy our public expenses because they are not for sale,” said Lula da Silva.
