Train with passengers derails on Line 8-Diamante in São Paulo

On Wednesday (Dec. 7), the car of a train of the 8-Diamante Line, managed by ViaMobilidade, derailed at Domingos de Moraes station in the city of São Paulo.

A car went off the tracks when the train stopped at the platform.

The option for passengers is to go to Lapa station to board. In the opposite direction, go to the Imperatriz Leopoldina station, get off and take the train towards Júlio Prestes.

ViaMobilidade, which operates the system, said that the causes of the accident are still being investigated.

This is the second derailment of a CPTM train in less than a week, which paralyzes service.

The other interruption happened on the Lines 12-Safira, 11-Coral, and Expresso Aeroporto, between Engenheiro Goulart and Tatuapé stations after a train derailed in the early hours of last Saturday (Dec. 3) near the Tatuapé station.

After three days of chaos, the lines returned to normal operation on Tuesday morning (Dec. 6).

Since the early hours of Saturday, the lines have been operating slowly.

Since January 2022, lines 8 and 9, which used to belong to CPTM, were conceded to be managed by ViaMobilidade.

On November 29, the Public Ministry of São Paulo (MPSP) recommended that the state government rescinds the contract with ViaMobilidade, responsible for lines 8-Diamante and 9-Esmeralda of Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM).

The district attorney’s office claims to have enough evidence to ask the courts to suspend the CPTM contract.

The TAC, however, was not accepted by ViaMobilidade.
