Isabel dos Santos says she feels “politically persecuted” in Angola

Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos said today in an interview that she feels “politically persecuted” by the current President of Angola, João Lourenço, who she still accuses of not respecting the separation of powers and conditioning justice.

“There is no doubt that we are facing a scenario of political persecution, and looking at Angola and our legal system, it is easy to understand that the Attorney General of the Republic receives orders directly from the President, that is, unlike some countries,” said Isabel dos Santos, in an interview with TVI/CNN.

Isabel dos Santos considers that there is no separation of powers in Angola and accuses the Attorney General of the Republic, Pitra Grós, of receiving orders from João Lourenço.

This, she claims, is the reason for what she considers to be the “political persecution” that she alleges is being targeted, with the aim, namely, of preventing “other voices from entering the politics in Angola.”

Regarding Portugal, Isabel dos Santos says that no government has asked her to invest in the country.

“I always worked with business contacts,” she said, reiterating that her relationship with Portugal “was always through private investment,” with Portuguese businesspeople.

Asked about her connection to Russia, Isabel dos Santos highlighted the culture and history of this country and, when asked if she considers moving to Russia, Isabel dos Santos only replied that she feels “a special affection” for that country.

“I have a special affection, because it is my mother’s land. Therefore, it is a place where I have family and that I respect a lot, with a phenomenal culture,” she declared.

As for the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, she replied that she hopes the conflict will be resolved. “Peace is important for everyone,” she concluded.
