Brazil sets new oil and gas production record

In October, the national production of oil and natural gas reached the highest volume ever recorded in Brazil.

Oil companies extracted 4.18 million barrels per day in the month, according to data from the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) released on Friday (November 18, 2022).

The country has only surpassed the 4 million barrel mark on two other occasions: in January 2021, when 4.04 million were extracted, and in September 2022, 4.05 million.

Approximately 75.2% of October’s national production was extracted in the pre-salt. The fields with the highest production are: Tupi, Búzios, and Mero -all operated by Petrobras, in the Santos Basin, on the coast of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The state-owned company accounted for 65.4% of production in the month. Petrobras has a stake in 104 oil and natural gas-producing fields.

The Brazilian company is followed by Shell (12.5%), TotalEnergies (4.2%), Petrogal (3.3%), and Repsol Sinopec (1.9%) – international companies with operations in the country. All five companies are focused on the pre-salt.
