Cuban government announces a new wave of blackouts on the island

Through the state-owned Unión Eléctrica (UE), the Cuban government has hinted that it foresees power cuts for some hours, estimating that up to 37% of the island would be affected by this decision.

The Caribbean nation experienced during the last month a resurgence of street protests when indignant citizens complained to the tyranny of Miguel Diaz Canel for the continuous days of power cuts to which they were being subjected.

These demonstrations escalated to the point that many even openly demanded the regime’s fall.

It gave way to a new wave of political persecution on the island, where the repressive bodies of Castroism detained demonstrators and orchestrated summary trials against them.

It is estimated that some areas were subjected to scheduled power outages of up to 12 hours daily.
