The coach of the men’s national soccer team, Tite, presented on Monday (Nov. 7) the list of 26 players selected to play in the Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
Altogether, the squad cost more than US$1.1 billion (R$ 5.6 billion at current exchange rates) in the soccer market, according to the website Transfermarkt, which specializes in the soccer market.
The most valuable players are Vinicius Jr, 22, and Rodrygo, 21, from Real Madrid, costing US$120 and 80 million (same amount in euros), respectively.
Their age justifies the high value of the players on the market. Considered the best Brazilian player, Neymar, 30, currently has an estimated value of US$75 million.

The 1st World Cup match will be on Nov. 21, at 7 am (Brasília time), between the teams of the Netherlands and Senegal. Brazil opens on Nov. 24, at 4 pm, against Serbia.
On October 21, the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) sent a preliminary list with 55 names to FIFA. The list was kept secret.
The selected players should leave on November 19th for Doha, the capital of Qatar. Brazil is in group G, which includes Serbia, Cameroon, and Switzerland national teams.
The tournament will have 30 other countries represented: 13 from Europe, 6 from Asia, 5 from Africa, 4 from South America, and 4 from North, Central America, and the Caribbean.
The list is headed by Qatar, which qualified automatically because it is the host country. However, the World Cup opening game will not feature the hosts.
HISTORY
The Brazilian men’s soccer team collects 5 victories in the world championship. Currently, it is the only “penta” champion country.
1st championship (1958) – led by the stars Pelé and Garrinha. The Brazilian team reached the final against the host country, Sweden; a 5×2 score is considered the biggest victory in a World Cup final;
Bicampeonato (1962) – In the last game, against Czechoslovakia, Brazil won 3-1 with goals by Zito, Vavá and Amarildo;
Tricampeonato (1970) – “The World Cup is ours! With Brazilians, there’s no one who can”, was the refrain that gained prominence in Brazil; the Brazilian team beat the Italian, 4-1;
Tetracampeonato (1994) – after 24 years without a victory, Brazil reaches the final against Italy. The match went to penalties, and the Brazilian team won 3×2;
Pentacampeonato (2002) – in the final against Germany, the Brazilian team won the match 2-0; influential names in current soccer competed, for example, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, and Cafu.
