Venezuela urges to reestablish cooperation between South America and Africa

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro declared tonight that his country is betting on the reactivation of cooperation mechanisms between the peoples and governments of Africa and South America within the framework of building new international relations of cooperation and peace.

“Now, with the arrival of (Luiz Inácio) Lula da Silva, sooner rather than later, the moment will have to come when we reactivate the mechanisms of summits between Africa and South America”, said the president from the Miraflores Palace, the seat of the Government.

Maduro highlighted that a gateway to such reactivation could be the leadership of the President of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, who also heads the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas).

During the reception of the African leader, the Venezuelan head of state highlighted that, currently, “we are moving forward in the construction of a new world from the Bolivarian diplomacy of peace, a world based on respect, equality, cooperation, solidarity, and complementarity”.

He affirmed that his country is convinced of the construction of “a world very different from the world of the old colonialism and the old slavery, of the old hegemonism that has tried to impose themselves in all times and that pretend, from a buffa operetta, to impose themselves in the 21st century”.

In contrast to such pretension, Maduro contrasted that, in his opinion, “the 21st century is the century of the peoples, the century of Africa, of South America, of the peoples of the South, it is our century, of our dreams”.

He pointed out that most of the countries and peoples of the world want to advance “towards a new prosperity, a new humanity, that is what we want to build, and this is our century above any difficulty and any imperialist campaign to defame our countries”.

“Above any arrogant and overbearing statement of the old empires, they will not be able to stop the construction of a more just world,” the president said.
