“Let’s not give up on our Brazil” – Bolsonaro’s son breaks silence after his father’s defeat

After Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s victory in Brazil’s elections, outgoing President Jair Bolsonaro maintained a tense silence for more than a day.

His eldest son commented on social media about his father’s defeat.

“Thank you to all who helped us save patriotism, who prayed, who took to the streets, who gave their sweat for the country that is doing well, and who gave Bolsonaro the biggest voice of his life! Let’s lift our heads and not give up on our Brazil! God is at the helm,” said Flavio Bolsonaro on Twitter.

A little later, Flavio added: “Dad, I’m with you until the end!

This is the first comment of the presidential family after the defeat to the left.

President Bolsonaro did not concede defeat or congratulate Lula on his victory.

COUNTRY IN SUSPENSE

Jair Bolsonaro, meanwhile, remained silent on, with no explanation or rally on the horizon.

His silence emboldens those of his supporters who do not accept the result, blocking roads and advocating a coup d’état.

Congresswoman Gleisi Hoffmann, leader of the Workers’ Party (PT, left), the party led by da Silva, declared in the face of Bolsonaro’s silence that she would unilaterally initiate the transition process if there was no presidential declaration within 48 hours.

Workers’ Party (PT) candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the second round of Brazilian elections with 50.90% of the vote compared to 49.10% for his rival, current President Jair Bolsonaro, and will be the next president of the country.
