Bolivia reactivates extradition of former minister of Áñez’s administration from Brazil

The Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office reactivated the extradition process of the former Minister of Defense of the administration of Jeanine Áñez (2019-2020), Luis Fernando López, from Brazil, where he is a refugee, as confirmed by the general secretary of the entity, Edwin Quispe.

“As Prosecutor’s Office, we have learned that the former minister Luis Fernando López is in Brazil, together with the former commander of the Police [Yuri Calderón], so we reactivated the extradition procedure, initiated in March”, he said in a press conference.

The official indicated that the procedures established in the law are being complied with, and preventive detention for extradition purposes was requested.

López and Calderón are accused of breaches of duties, illicit enrichment, negotiations incompatible with the State, terrorism, and the deaths in the massacres of Senkata and Sacaba.

Both former officials were installed by former interim president Áñez, who was sentenced on June 10 to ten years in prison for crimes committed after her ascension to office in 2019.
