Venezuela ranks last in the world in respect for the Rule of Law

On Wednesday, October 26, the non-governmental organization World Justice Project (WJP) released the world ranking of respect for the rule of law by country.

In the report, which includes 140 countries of the planet, Venezuela, governed by Nicolás Maduro, is in the last place.

The scale used by the WJP stipulates a score from 0 to 1 to each country’s government, according to its respect -or not- for the basic principles of the establishment of the Rule of Law.

Thus, Venezuela obtained an index of 0.26 in the register, being the NGO’s worst-evaluated nation in this matter.

According to this institution in the Americas, in addition to the case of the Caribbean country, the situations in Haiti and Nicaragua, which in turn are part of the club of the ten countries that in the last year have experienced the greatest setbacks in this matter, are noteworthy.

The breakdown of the rule of law in these nations has come from the reduction of limits to power, the non-existence of justice, and the lack of protection of fundamental rights.

According to WJP, up to 22 of the 32 Latin American countries evaluated on this occasion show signs of clear setbacks in this regard.
