Bolivia and Peru strengthen control of their airspace to combat drug trafficking

Bolivia and Peru air forces will establish integrated airspace control mechanisms and periodically exchange information on illegal aircraft involved in drug trafficking that fly over the common border between the two countries.

It was one of the 35 joint actions agreed upon between the two States to optimize the fight against drug trafficking on the binational border due to the IX Meeting of the Bolivian-Peruvian Joint Commission.

The meeting occurred in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz between September 29 and 30.

EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION AND EXPERIENCES

On the other hand, the exchange and analysis of information and strengthening of the Regional Counterdrug Intelligence Center (CERIAN) will be continued.

In addition, experiences will be exchanged on the methodology for monitoring coca crops and reducing surplus coca crops with satellite images, and field validation carried out by both governments.

Both delegations referred to international cooperation in exchanging information on suspicious operations, statistics, and typologies in money laundering and financing terrorism.

In that order, at “the level of the Financial Investigation Units, the exchange of information will continue and cross-border currency control exercises will be carried out”, explained the Bolivian Vice Minister in statements reported by the Bolivian Information Agency.
